First of all, the book was not even available to the general public yet and, second, I had only moved to this town less than two months ago. What was going on here?
As it turns out, I had given one of my semi-edited first run copies to Tim who came to install the Internet service in our home. (Not really the “cable guy”, but “broadband guy” didn’t make a good headline.) During his visit, I learned that Tim was actually the owner of Mohave Broadband out working with the installer that day. Who would have guessed he would actually read it?
Well, he wants to talk. If I can get him to stop working in his business (installing) and start working on his business (strategically marketing), we might have time to strategize. Meanwhile, I would just be happier with more bandwidth — whomever installs it! Call me Tim. Any time.

What a great story! I have learned that I get some of my best customers in the wierdest places. I talk about my business everywhere I go, and I leave my cute little business card behids all the time. I have to spend so much time working “in” my business, I have to take every opportunity to work “on” my business that I can!

Thanks, Christine. You are a great example of someone who actually is focused on building a business instead of just opening the doors. Best of luck.
